About Alan Wareham

Way back in the 1980’s as a member of British Mensa, The High IQ Society, I used to compile puzzles for the Mensa Magazine in my spare time. A year after I started compiling puzzles for the Mensa Magazine, I started a weekly ‘Fun Time’ puzzle column for the Shields Gazette in South Shields. It was known as the oldest provincial evening newspaper in the United Kingdom. This was a weekly puzzle column comprising of a Word Search, two relatively easy puzzles and a Brainteaser puzzle.

A year after the first ‘Fun Time’ puzzle column was released, it was syndicated by Peter Norman of Advance Features, to several other provincial newspapers across the UK, including newspapers in Belfast, Hinckley, Gwent, Portsmouth and a few more.

In 1989 I thought why not put together a collection of more challenging puzzles in a book. By 1990, The British Mensa Committee, under the chairmanship of Sir Clive Sinclair and the Executive Director Harold Gale, had given me permission to use ‘Mensa’ in the title of my first book ‘A Mensa Book of Brainteasers’.

‘A Mensa Book of Logic Puzzles’ followed a year later and in the USA the books were released under the titles ‘A Challenging Book of Brainteasers’ and ‘A Challenging Book of Logic Puzzles’. The books were published in several countries and some were translated into different languages, for example, ‘Test Your Brain Power’ was translated into Spanish and released under the title ‘El Test Del Desarrollo Mental’.

In addition to writing the puzzle books, in my spare time, I continued to compile puzzles for various publications including The Sunday Times (Funday Times Section), The Glasgow Herald (Daily Brainteaser for 7 years) and even a ‘Word Wise’ puzzle for the Woman’s Weekly for 8 years.

Many of my puzzles were syndicated to publications in different countries and I compiled puzzles for Television including some for the Cartoon Network and a TV Quiz Show called ‘All in The Mind’.

Hopefully you will enjoy the free puzzles on this website and send or share a link to the website to anyone you know who you think may be interested in some free puzzles.
